Everything else being equal, having met all fit categories… a therapist may still not be able to work with you. I know, it sucks, but it’s true. It can get especially tricky around ethics. There are some hard lines that cannot be crossed, and others that are more challenging to navigate.

If you’ve ever looked into therapy, you probably heard the term “fit,” but do you really know what it means? What I found in my NYC psychology practice is that there are actually four different types of fit in therapy and you can prioritize them based on your own needs.
